LASIK Eye Surgery FAQs

LASIK Eye Surgery

What is LASIK Eye Surgery?

Laser-Assisted in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) is most often referred to as laser eye surgery, which corrects myopia (near sightedness), hypermetropia (farsightedness) and astigmatism. LASIK surgery uses laser technology to reshape the cornea to improve vision.

What does LASIK Eye Surgery cost?

For most people who wear contacts or glasses, fees for the products and services associated with correcting their vision and maintaining clear vision can be $1,000 annually or more. Over the years, that really adds up. LASIK is a one-time expense that can be defrayed with financing options. Our patients find LASIK much more affordable than a life-time of contacts, glasses and the products and services associated with them.

The fees for LASIK depend upon a number of different factors that are unique to each patient. That’s why we offer a free consultation. During that consultation, we will give you a complete evaluation and recommendations on the laser eye surgery that would best meet your vision and health goals. Fees can range anywhere between $1,800 – 3,000 per eye, depending on your current vision and health.

Are there any LASIK complications I should know about?

About 98% of patients who experience LASIK have no complications or side effects whatsoever. A very small percentage may experience eye dryness or may see halos or starbursts around the item they are focusing on. Night vision problems may also be a concern. All of these side effects are usually resolved as the healing process progresses and after several months, patients are free from any side effects, enjoying their perfect vision!

Who is a good LASIK Eye Surgery candidate?

Most adults who are currently wearing contacts or glasses are candidates for LASIK or another type of laser vision correction surgery, such as PRK or PTK. After your examination, the doctor will explain all of your options and recommend which he thinks would be the best for you.

Are there any LASIK Eye Surgery risks?

While rare events have been reported by doctors in other offices, they affect less than 0.4% patients total and may include retinal detachment, choroidal neovascularization (CNV) and eye infection. We are well aware of the precautions necessary to make your LASIK surgery a complete success and will do whatever it takes to ensure your health and safety at all times. We also recommend that all LASIK patients attend all recommended follow-up appointments with the doctor to safeguard against any issues that may arise.

How long does LASIK Eye Surgery recovery take?

Most patients schedule their LASIK surgeries for Thursdays and can go back to work by the Monday after. The day after the surgery, most patients can see well enough to drive and carry out most of their daily functions, however we recommend that you use your best judgment on whether that is true for you or not.

Your vision will continue to improve over the next two weeks. During this recovery time, avoid getting water or shampoo in your eyes while bathing or showering. The doctor will let you know when it is safe to use make-up, cosmetics in the eye area or moisturizers near the eyes. Other precautions will be explained to you at your first follow-up visit, the day after your surgery or shortly thereafter.

LASIK for Astigmatism

Astigmatism can be easily corrected with LASIK or another laser vision procedure such as PRK. After you have your free consultation and examination, the doctor will explain the best procedure to correct your astigmatism.

Are there financing options for LASIK fees?

We offer Care Credit. That means that if you have good credit, you may be eligible for financing at 0% interest for 24 months. For some people, the monthly payment would be as low as $109-167 per month for the 24-month period.
