Neck Lift

Neck Lift

Who is a candidate for neck lift surgery?

Anyone who is in good health is a candidate for neck lift procedures. The majority of clients who come to us for neck lifts, or lower face lifts, are concerned by the effects of:

  • A turkey wattle neck
  • Excess skin
  • Excess neck fat
  • Unsightly wrinkles

These issues can be remedied by a combination of treatments including liposuction, Botox, and the removing of extra muscle and/or skin.

What happens during a neck lift procedure?

The first step is to meet with our surgeon during a complimentary consultation. During this consultation, you can discuss your concerns with the doctor. He will provide a thorough examination and then discuss procedures he feels is best for your needs and expectations. Patients will also be advised regarding diet and lifestyle changes that should be adhered to preceding and after the procedure to reduce the risk of complications and to facilitate a smooth and timely recovery.

There are several different techniques that can be used during neck lift surgery.

  • Turkey wattle procedure. During this neck lift procedure, the doctor will make incisions under the chin and/or behind the ears in order to access specific neck muscles, called the platysma. He will re-sculpt the area using liposuction, Botox, and/or potentially removing minor muscle tissue. Patients can choose whether or not they want to be fully sedated or partially sedated. Once the procedure is complete, the surgeon will carefully stitch the incisions to minimize scarring.
  • Liposuction. Liposuction can be used virtually anywhere on the body to remove excess fat deposits. If you are combining liposuction with other procedures, such as a lower facelift, your doctor will perform the liposuction first before proceeding with the rest of the contouring. The small access incisions will be carefully stitched and bandaged.
  • Excess skin. If your neck is sagging or wrinkled from excess skin, the surgeon can trim the skin and lift it in order to restore a more youthful appearance.
  • Trampoline lift. This is a relatively new procedure which can be done without anesthetic. It uses a series of inner-tissue stitches that weaves or ties the tissue together for a tighter, firmer look. It is less expensive and less invasive than full neck lift surgery.

How long will the neck lift recovery time be?

Depending on the type of procedure(s) performed, a neck lift can take anywhere from one to five hours. Once the surgery is complete, the patient will experience minimal pain an/or discomfort, which can be alleviated using anti-inflammatory pain relievers. Any swelling or bruising should be resolved within about a week, with most patients able to return to work within 2-3 days. Patients should adhere strictly to the doctor’s post-surgical instructions to minimize inflammation, scarring, or the risk of infection.

Pre and post-operative treatments can help facilitate the healing process, including:

It is also advised that patients maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle to facilitate healing and reduce the effects of the aging process.
