what is pms?

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a group of symptoms that occur in the days leading up to a woman's menstrual period. These symptoms can include physical and emotional symptoms such as:

  • Physical symptoms: cramps, bloating, breast tenderness, headaches, fatigue, and acne.
  • Emotional symptoms: mood swings, irritability, anxiety, depression, and difficulty concentrating.

The severity of symptoms can vary from person to person, and some women may not experience any symptoms at all. PMS symptoms typically subside once a woman's period starts, but in some cases, the symptoms may continue throughout the menstrual cycle. If the symptoms are severe and are impacting a woman's daily life, it may be considered as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and it is recommended to consult a healthcare provider.
