Anemia: A condition in which blood is deficient in red blood cells, hemoglobin, or in total volume.

Anoxic: A severe lack of oxygen likely to result in permanent damage.

Atmospheric pressure: The air pressure experienced under normal conditions at sea level.

Barotrauma: Injury to the body due to changes in barometric pressure.

Debridement: The surgical removal of damaged, dead, or compromised tissue.

Hyperbaric: Higher than atmospheric pressure.

Hypoxia: An abnormal low level of oxygen.

Ischemia: Deficient supply of blood to a body part.

Necrosis: Dead or dying tissues.
